McCormick, Sekinat K., MD

Associate Professor/Clinical

Personal Statement:

Dr. Sekinat McCormick is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in musculoskeletal conditions in children.  Her current clinical practice consists of a broad spectrum of general pediatric orthopedics including scoliosis, trauma, neuromuscular diseases, pediatric hip pathology, limb deformity and clubfoot. In addition to her clinical work, she has an interest in researching issues of healthcare disparities and their impacts on musculoskeletal health and patient’s general wellbeing.

Outside of direct clinical care, Dr. McCormick is actively involved in musculoskeletal education of both the residents and the medical students. She serves as a core faculty within the clinical skills module within the medical school curriculum where she works directly with students in their first and second years. In this role, she is able to provide early exposure to the field of orthopedic surgery for students who may not have such exposure otherwise.

In addition to her commitments to the Health Science Center, Dr. McCormick spends time as an active member in the Bexar County Medical Society and The C.A. Whittier Medical Society, where she serves as a committee member and executive member respectively. Her work with these two organizations allows her to remain connected to the San Antonio community.

When she is not actively involved with her work and volunteer commitments, Dr. McCormick enjoys spending time with her veteran husband, Ted, their two children Zachariah and Sarah, and the family dog Clu. In addition to invaluable family time, Dr. McCormick also enjoys bowling, roller skating, and cheering for Navy Football, Ted’s alma mater and the family’s number one team of choice.
