Fred G. Corley, MD
Professor, Hand Service
Hand Service

I grew up and graduated from Yazoo City High School, a small town in the Mississippi Delta.

I completed my internship at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX, I then joined the military and spent one year in Vietnam and one year in Austin, TX.

My orthopaedic residency was at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX. Following completion of my residency, I did fellowships in Hand Surgery and Sports Medicine at the Princess Margaret Rose Orthopaedic Hospital in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

I have been a faculty member of the department of Orthopaedics at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio for over thirty years. My passion is resident education, upper extremity fractures and patient care.

I am a member of the American Orthopaedic Association, The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, The American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and The Texas Orthopaedic Association.

My colleagues have honored me with memberships in Alpha Omega Alpha, The Arnold Gold Humanism in Medicine Society, in addition to clinical and teaching awards.

I’m an avid reader and sports fan. I also enjoy duck hunting, gardening, and rock collecting.

I’ve got the best job in the world, with opportunities to teach, help folks, do some research, and be a part of a great university.
