Why we promote resident research

The Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is committed to advancing our understanding of the musculoskeletal system during normal growth and development and under various pathological conditions. The generation of new knowledge, through scholarly activity, is critical to achieving our goal of providing the best care possible for our patients. Clinical and basic science research provide the foundation for reassessing and modifying current treatments. By training residents in the fundamentals of research and how new knowledge is generated, a life-long pattern of scholarly activity, including the contribution of new knowledge themselves and the evaluation of new knowledge from others, will be established that will promote the highest standard of care in Orthopaedics.
