Rotation Descriptions

The current resident rotation schedule is designed to provide wide ranging exposure to general orthopaedic surgery as well as all of the orthopaedic surgery subspecialties. An emphasis is placed on continuity of care and each resident is expected to participate in all aspects of the care of the same patient. The service-to-education ratio on each service is designed to allow each resident to be identified as a student. This schedule also allows for compliance with all of the resident duty hours restrictions.  As noted in the summaries provided above, residents are only responsible for night call when they are assigned to the VA, Methodist, Christus Santa Rosa, or Trauma. Residents rotating on Orthopaedic Red, Orange, Green, Spine, Foot and Ankle, and Research have no call responsibilities. This schedule lends itself to a robust residency education which is balanced with a reasonable lifestyle and the opportunity for self-study, sleep, and other personal activities.
