Kavina Patel Derm Wannabe presenting for UTHealth March 2019-web

Kavina Patel MS2 – from the UT Health San Antonio Long School of Medicine – presents on behalf of the Dept. of Dermatology and the Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery at the American Academy of Dermatology National Meeting in Washington D.C. She presented three posters reviewing common clinical patterns to improve diagnostic skills where orthopaedics and dermatology overlap. “Skin and Bones” is a series of cases demonstrating characteristic skin findings that accompany musculo-skeletal issues. The triptych of cases included a series of genetic, inflammatory and infectious disorders that were presented as unknowns to give the audience a chance to test their diagnostic skills. The dermatologic and orthopaedic relevance was then briefly discussed. Drs. Sandra Osswald, MD (Dermatology) and Marc DeHart, MD (Orthopaedic Surgery) served as senior authors of the project and helped mentor these students who have now presented their work at 2 national meetings. The school’s departments are proud of how far the junior author Kavina Patel MS2 and her associate Ahmad Farhan MS2 were able to share this project.
